Internet Marketing And Permission-Based Email Marketing

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

When you hear the term “internet marketing“, what do you think of?

For many, that term conjures thoughts of websites or spamming or search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. For others, it’s all about graphical design, writing fancy code or even affiliate programs. All of those answers correct, but the essence of internet marketing is much simpler.

At its core, internet marketing is about these things:

* Understanding the target market to which the product/service/cause you’re marketing will appeal
* Determining exactly how your target market interacts with the internet
* Positioning your content on the internet to attract the attention of your target market
* Collecting information about your target market (also known as “leads”) for follow-up and conversion into sales
* Design of offers or incentives to induce the desired actions from your leads

Since there is insufficient space in this article to give all of these topics adequate attention, let’s focus on just one specific topic with the realm of internet marketing: Email Marketing.

My best payoff has always come by focusing on permission-based email marketing. Permission-based email marketing refers to the practice of collecting information (including email addresses) from website visitors and communicating with them via e-mail with their direct consent. The “permission” aspect of permission-based email marketing is what separates legitimate email marketers from the spammers that everyone despises.

My love of email marketing is strong for one reason: It works very well. Email marketing has been much like a never-ending goldmine: It enables us to produce income on demand simply by sending a good offer to our list. When you have thousands of loyal subscribers - as we do - and you put a strong and compatible offer in front of them, income becomes nearly automatic.

However, the key to successful email marketing is the development of a legitimate trust relationship with your subscribers. If you opt to send your subscribers a request for purchases every single day, they will likely tire of your badgering and cease reading your emails altogether.

Alternatively, if you take the time to provide good content to your readers on a regular and frequent basis, you’ll discover that your readers take all of your emails far more seriously, and as a result your emails will be opened, read and acted upon with greater frequency. Essentially, email marketing is really an exercise in trust.

While there are many more aspects to internet marketing than just permission-based email marketing, email has definitely been the cornerstone on which our business is built.

The Most Important Part of Internet Marketing

Watch Anik Singal Pick Apart Three Simple Affiliate Websites

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

I’ve learned a heck of a lot about online marketing without any cost.  One of the most important things that I can do now, that I didn’t know how to do when I was starting is to locate useful, accurate information without any cost.  Most newbies don’t know that they can actually find a high quality free course about how to start an Internet business.

Over the years, I’ve gradually shifted my business model from retailing (which I still do) to affiliate marketing.  I realize that in much of that time period I wasted a lot of money.  Now (a little late) I know that there are placed where there are valuable resources about how to become an affiliate marketer without any cost at all.  And that free information is much more valuable than almost any of the magic bullet product I bought.

Anik Singal reminded me of all that recently, as he prepares to launch his remarkable online “university,” Affiliate Classroom 2.  This morning he released a new report that exemplifies how the best will often share what they know, and all you have to do is ask for it.

The zero cost report, which is for affiliate marketing businesses is crunched into a mere 55 pages, but those pages are packed with “read and apply” tips that are of value even to old hands like me.  I’m going to share a few of the details of the report, even though I’m not sure that I’m supposed to.

After some preliminary background information, Singal uses a case study approach.  He tears apart three typical affiliate marketing websites: an opt-in, a blog and a review site.  Unfortunately these sites all shared a common problem–common to them and common to a lot of affiliate businesses–they weren’t making as much money as they should be.

In the report, Singal breaks apart each of the sites for the owners (and for us) and makes specific, actionable recommendations for turning them into money machines–okay, not million dollar a month money machines but at least profitable business websites.  Despite my years of experience and my relative success as an affiliate marketer, I found a lot of his recommendations could be applied to some of my own sites.  And, as soon as I’m finished writing this, I’m off to change a few things about my own already profitable sites.

In case you don’t know who Anik Singal is, you definitely should.  He was recently named one of Business Week Magazine’s four “young entrepreneurs of 2008.”

By the way, I’m not sure how long he’ll leave this report online.  I suspect that once the soon to launch Affiliate Classroom 2 sells out, he will take down the report.  If he does, I’ll share a few of his insights in a later article.

Websites Results Are Improving Through Use Of Real Presenters

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Virtual Presenter

Having video content on websites is much more effective then standard text because it creates a visual interaction with the audience so there for the audience will receive instant information about the web video production or services available. Also it keeps browsers interested with the information that is given, as there is direct interaction with the browser.

There are various video presenters out there one example is Marino Olova who hosts a web show on youtube called too hot for words where people will ask her random questions and she will give them an answer however her unique selling point is her breast as you may see in her videos and this has attracted viewers to watch her productions as sex sells, because she has a mass audience who watch her productions she now receives funding form marketing sources such as google where they will post a links on her pages and will get a certain amount of money every time her videos have been viewed.

In the year 2008 it came to knowledge that internet marketing has surpassed television hence why itv had a loss of 600 jobs because they where not turning in enough revenue from advertisement to keep staff on. The internet advertising model mastered by Google is used to target specific searches on video sharing sites. Hence they can place their products on a specific website either 1 of two things that there product suits the target audience which visit that site or website that is popular and has an large audience which visit the website, hence why youtube has taken the nation and advertisement world by storm as they have a mass audience going into millions. This is why video channels that have a large number of viewers are more likely to get advertisers to reach their target market.

The popularity with video based content such as you tube, facebook and myspace, is growing as people are interested in watching other peoples productions and load up their own productions for the public to watch, same with face book which is a social network site and myspace where you can upload your own videos for your friends and family to watch and also add comments expressing their opinions on what they think of the production.

Does Clickbank Offer A 2 Tier Affiliate Payout

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

People have been hearing about clickbank and how easy it is to generate cash with doing little to nothing. The ability to place a banner on your site and gain money just from your visitors clicking on it is a very attractive offer. Many people become affiliates to other websites for the sole purpose of making commissions off the products those websites are selling.

Clickbank is one of the top affiliate programs. It offers many variations on ways for the affiliates to earn money. The commissions can be paid out in a pay per sale or a pay per click method and they can also incorporate a two tier program for extra earnings. Not all affiliate programs will offer a two tier program and this makes clickbank a valued asset to the internet and its users.

If you are lucky enough to get a member to pay per click then you simply have to place the banner on your site and every time it is clicked you will earn a commission. This can be very beneficial for increasing traffic to the members site and very profitable to the affiliate that is collecting commissions.

The members who will offer a clickbank two tier program are allowing you to not only make money on the traffic that is driven from your site but also from that of other affiliates that you have referred to the member site. This ability allows an affiliate to make a lot more money since they can recruit other affiliates and begin earning from their commissions as well. Not all affiliate programs will offer a two tier affiliate program but with ones such as clickbank that do you stand to earn a decent profit .

With pay per click accounts the two tier program really can bring in some cash. Since there is no purchase that needs to be made and you get paid for your traffic as well as other affiliates traffic that is driven to the website there is no limit to your earnings. If you can create a huge affiliate base for yourself then you stand to earn money while you sleep, while on vacation, basically all day and all night you could be earning money for doing nothing.

The reason the affiliates are being paid for adding member banners on their websites is to promote the members page. The member site earns a higher page rank from the search engines due to the increased number of backlinks the site will have and they also benefit from the large amounts of traffic that can be sent to their site to increase sales. The affiliates earn no recognition from the search engines but will benefit from commissions from the sites profit.

The more closely your website is optimized for the member site the more luck you will have with earning commissions. If your website has nothing to do with the site banner you place on your page then chances are the traffic that is being directed to your site will have no interest in the members site. You need to ensure that the site members you choose are at least related to your site in some way to enable the traffic to be targeted for the member site and not only yours.

Marketing By Email Deliverability Tips

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

As an owner of an online marketing company one of the questions I get a lot about autoresponder software is how do you maximize deliver-ability to clients and customers. There are several things to consider. The number one step when using autoresponder software is to confirm that the people who ask for your information have actually asked to be on your list. When marketing by email you should be using a process called confirmed opt-in to send a link to the attempted subscriber when they request information. Before adding the person to your list they must click that unique link and confirm that they are the same person that owns the email address and requested to subscribe.

When requesting website visitors to opt-in ask for their primary email address instead of a free email address like Yahoo or Hotmail. Free emails tend to be throw away accounts and have a shorter lifetime than a primary ISP address.

When using autoresponder software always promptly remove undeliverable addresses that bounce when you send email to them. The system I work with automatically does this for you but some systems require you do it manually. An address that bounces with a permanent error 2-3 times in a 30 day period should be removed from the list. ISP’s track what percentage of your newsletters bounce and will block them if you attempt to continually deliver messages to closed email boxes.

If you use autoresponder software be sure to set HTML messages to allow for text formatting, multiple columns, images, and brand recognition is growing in popularity and is widely supported by most email client software. Most spam is also HTML formatted and thus differentiating between requested email and spam HTML messages can be tough. A 2004 study shows that plain text messages are undeliverable 1.15% of the time and HTML only messages were undeliverable 2.3%. If sending HTML it is important to send a plain text alternative message, also called multi-part mime format.

Many ISP’s filters base conditions on the content that appears within the message text.

Website URL: Research potential newsletter advertisers before allowing them to place ads in your newsletter issues. If they have used their website URL to send spam, just having their URL appear in your newsletter could cause the entire message to be filtered.

Words and phrases: Choose your words carefully when crafting a message. Avoid hot button topics often found in spam such as get rich, loans, making money, and pornography. If you do need to use words that might be filtered, dont attempt to obfuscate words with extra characters or odd spelling, you will just make your messages appear more spam like. The autoresponder software I use and some others automatically searches for spam words before you activate the message.

Attachments: With viruses running rampant and spreading through the usage of malicious email attachments many users are wary of attached documents. Its often better to link to files via a website URL to reduce recipient fear of attachments and reduce the overall message size. The service I use as well as some others provide this option as part of the email marketing system.

Relationships & White listing: Contact with major ISP’s and email providers is important in letting them know about your requested subscriber email. Many large providers such as AOL and Hotmail have specific white listing programs and postmaster areas to ensure your email is delivered as long as you meet their policies in handling your opt-in list. In some cases like with the company I use this has already been taken care of.

Remember when using autoresponder software email deliver-ability is about ensuring requested opt-in email is delivered to the intended recipient. While no one tip will enable you to get 100% of your email delivered each one utilized as a group can go a long way to reaching that goal.

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Are you wondering just what is twitter good for? The answer really depends on who you ask.

Some people might say that Twitter is a free service that helps you stay connected in actual time.

“Twitter is a social networking and micro blogging service that allows you answer the question, “What are you doing?” by sending short text messages 140 characters in length, called “tweets”, to your friends, or “followers.”

There are plenty of critics out there who just don’t get Twitter. They think that people are wasting time talking about boring subjects.

While it is true that sometimes this happens. And it would be funny they think this if that was the only thing this website was about.

What goes on underneath the surface is where the real value is. People often share important thoughts and plans. You will find experts in many different fields offering help and guidance. There are even potential customers that could be yours talking about what they would like to see in products and services.

It’s a huge and growing population. A chunk of it is boring everyone to death by sharing details about the dressing on the salad served at lunch. There’s a substantial user population, however, that’s making exciting things happen.

If you are one of these people who just don’t get Twitter and don’t have a clue what is Twitter all about you may what to take a look around. You can become part of this social network and you will never have to mention what you ate for breakfast if you don’t want to.

If you want to stay on top of things then you need to be on the lookout for new tips, and tools.

Things never stay the same on the web and technologies are changing all the time. When you are talking about web 2.0 things will change at an even faster rate.

Because of this you will find it worthwhile to take the time to understand what is twitter good for and how it can help you.
